How It Works

Overtime earnings are calculated in two parts: your regular wages for base hours worked, plus premium overtime pay for any hours beyond your standard threshold (normally 40 hours per week).

Total Weekly Pay = (Base Rate × Regular Hours) + (Base Rate × Multiplier × Overtime Hours)

For example, if your base rate is $25.00/hour, your regular 40 hours earns $1,000. If you work 5 hours of overtime at time and a half (1.5× = $37.50/hr), you earn an additional $187.50 in overtime pay, bringing your total weekly pay to $1,187.50.

All calculations display gross earnings before income taxes, social security contributions, and retirement deductions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is overtime pay calculated?
Overtime pay is calculated by multiplying your base hourly rate by an overtime multiplier (typically 1.5× for time and a half), then multiplying by the number of overtime hours worked.
What is the difference between 1.5x and 2x overtime?
1.5× (time and a half) is standard for hours worked beyond 40 per week. 2.0× (double time) is typically paid for Sunday shifts, major holidays, or shifts exceeding 12 continuous hours under specific state laws.
Who qualifies for overtime pay under the FLSA?
Under the US Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), non-exempt employees must receive overtime pay for all hours worked over 40 in a workweek at not less than 1.5 times their regular rate.
Are overtime wages taxed at a higher rate?
Overtime pay is subject to standard progressive income tax brackets. While employers may withhold a higher percentage from larger paychecks, your final tax rate is determined by your total annual income when filing taxes.
Which currencies are supported?
